Chapter Two
I was in a field, walking and all of a sudden rain started to fall from the sky, first it was just a light pitter patter then it turned from the slight drizzle into a full on torrential downpour. I was running now running to a tiny little cottage that had smoke coming from a chimney, but no matter how hard I tried to run I just couldn’t seem to get closer.
All of a sudden rage just came over me and I screamed, punching the earth as flames erupted from me. Flames were coming off of my body but they weren’t normal red flames, they were green and though I felt it myself I saw myself as if from another person, and what I saw scared me, my eyes were glowing. I was manipulating the green flames and torching the earth, throwing fireballs at everything. I destroyed trees, shot birds out of the sky and just let loose. It was like watching someone else control my body, I could feel the rage that was coursing through my veins but yet I also was calm while watching my other self just erupt with anger.
As I looked I saw the cottage door open and a small girl with golden curls and brown eyes looking at my other self and as I watched the girl ran from the cottage towards me. I wanted to shout out, to warn her not to get near me, clearly it wasn’t safe. But as she drew closer the other me realized she was there and all of a sudden the rage subsided the flames died out the eyes that once were green were now brown there were no longer flames shooting off of the figure instead there were blue jeans and a dress shirt. But the rage was replaced with love.
I had no idea what I was seeing but as I watched I embraced the girl and picked her up and spun her around. As I watched the girl stayed in my arms and was talking a mile a minute. I wondered what she was saying. But as I watched we both made our way towards the cottage but I was still there in the field I could see myself walking towards the cottage but I couldn’t move forward to see it.
“You are not ready yet, you will get there but not yet.” A figure said as it formed in the mist that was forming over the field.
“Ready for what? Who was that girl?” I asked trying to see who was speaking to me.
“You are not ready, It is time to wake up.” The voice said.
“RIIIIINNNNNNNNNNG!!!” sounded the alarm clock violently.
I got up stretching cracking my back and then grabbed some clothes out of my dresser and headed into my bathroom to prepare a nice hot shower. I threw a small tablet into the shower and an aroma started to fill the bathroom along with the steam from the hot water.
As I undressed and climbed into the shower I began to fill my loofa with body wash, after lathering up my body taking the loofa over all of the familiar scars I then rinsed off and lathered up my hair with some shampoo then rinsing it out I moved onto the conditioner. Finally getting done with cleaning my body I got out toweled off and dressed. I decided that today would be a nice day to throw a little gel into my hair so I put a little on my hand and worked it into my hair. After finally getting my hair to what I wanted it to look like I went back into my room picked up my new satellite phone and my wallet.
Sounds could be heard from the kitchen, the sounds of sizzling bacon and eggs and the popping of the toaster. The clinking of china could be heard as Mitch got out a plate and some silverware.
“Hey Trey!” Mitch called through the hissing and sizzling of the frying pan. “Breakfast!”
I walked out into our little kitchen and sat our island. After cracking my neck and fingers I pulled the plate, which Mitch had prepared for me, closer to me. It was exactly what I loved to eat when I did eat breakfast, bacon, sunny side up eggs, and lightly browned toast.
“Thanks Mitch, but what is the occasion?” I asked starting to dip my toast into my sunny side up egg.
“Well since we are going to Egypt we really do not know the next time that we will be able to have a good American breakfast now do we?” Mitch stated as he started to clean the kitchen.
“I suppose you have a point.” I said as I cleaned up the rest of my plate, the bacon was delectable, and the eggs were cooked to perfection.
We took the needed precautions and procedures before leaving the apartment; making sure all of our garbage was out, payed all of the bills and wrote them all letters letting them know we were leaving and that we didn’t know when we would be back, and I took my cat to the kennel.
She was a very special cat to me, she had been with me ever since I was 10, now that she was getting up in years I figured her having the best care was best for her.
Now everything was done and it was time to take my cat to the kennel, how I was going to actually miss the little bundle of fur and joy. She might annoy me a little bit but I know that she loves me and is always there when I need loving. Her name was Andromeda she was an orange tiger cat, who had a medium length hair but was so soft and silky that you just loved to pet her.
“Are you ready to go to your kitty hotel?” I asked Andromeda as I picked up to put in her crate. She wasn’t happy about going into the crate, she never liked traveling, but as I held her close to me she was purring loud enough to make have the vibrations reverberate right through me.
“Alright Mitch lets head out.” I said picking up the cat carrier which contained Andromeda. We’ll drop her off then go meet up with the rest of the group.
After packing the cat carrier safely away in the back we set off. I drove this time, driving was a pain in the city, especially with all of the changing of lanes, and the not being able to turn around right away if you miss your turn. The first couple of months were rough, but once you get use to it, it really becomes like second nature. You occasionally have a memory lapse of what you were doing but it usually comes right back to you.
We finally arrived at the kennel, I took Andromeda in and paid the woman at the front desk with a credit card, and told her to charge it as necessary, and I gave her the number of my satellite phone to let me know if anything happened to my cat and to periodically check up with me.
The lady was very nice, she ensured me that Andromeda would be kept with the best care possible. She also said that they have a huge playroom for the cats to run around and play in. So to me it sounded like Andromeda was going to have a blast. We said our goodbyes the normal way, I put my face down by hers and she touched her nose to my nose, it was kind of like our little “I love you”
It was somewhat hard to leave Andromeda there, not because I was worried about her health. But because she was a security blanket, she kept my mind at ease, whenever I was sad or angry she was there. And being sad seemed to come hand in hand of late, and what else do you need to help chase away the blues but a cat that follows you around like a little puppy dog?
We parked our car in a parking garage since we were not employees that day we couldn’t use the staff parking lot. After finally finding a spot we headed towards the library, only to find Paul and Ashley on the floor below us waiting for the elevator.
“Fancy meeting you both here,” Mitch said in his soft voice that he always used whenever a woman was around. “Think we should just head directly from here instead of walking there and walking back?”
We all agreed and then hopped in Ashley’s car since it was the largest, a nice jeep liberty, all the while the rest of us were driving old hand me downs, that had all sorts of problems. Paul of course called shotgun, after we all climbed in Ashley started the engine and we were off.
“Is there any particular store that you would like to shop in?” She asked as she accelerated through traffic like it was nothing. “Personally I know of a really great mall in Langley, it is a bit of a drive but I think that you all would like it.”
“It’s up to you,” I said lazily looking out of the window. “You are the handler.”
“Oh please don’t call me a handler, it makes me feel like a babysitter.” She said laughing as she looked at me in the rearview mirror. “To Langley it is then.”
After about forty-five minutes of driving, fifteen of which contained Paul's cheesy pick up lines and flirting attempts, all of which failed terribly. We finally made it. It was your average looking mall, just on a little grander scale since it was in Langley. We parked the car and headed in through one of the stores.
At first glance Paul, Mitch, and I could tell that this store was defiantly out of our price range, we looked at a suit rack and almost shuddered at the price. Paul picked up a tie to examine a price tag and dropped it like it was on fire.
“We seriously need to leave before I throw up from this.” Paul said looking at all of us horror etched in his face.
We quickly made our way to the closest mall exit. After we got out of there we examined a map that told us where we were, of course Paul did the “how do they know?” joke when he read the “you are here” part of the map.
After figuring out where all we were suppose to go and a few pit stops; one to get a pretzel and another to drag Ashley away from a very large display of shoes, and of course one time for Ashley to drag the three of us from a very unique comic shop, we finally made it to the sporting goods store.
“Ok we need to pick up spelunking gear.” Ashley said looking at a list that she had pulled out of her pocket. “We can pick up any climate control cloths while we are here also. Meet back here in about an hour.”
